Leadership Bio Pages That Prove Expertise, Not Just Claim It
Updated: Oct 30

Your bio page summarizes expertise. It should prove it.
It's dumbfounding to me how many companies thought their people as their experts from the C-Suite to the subject matter experts yet don't give them a home or voice on their website (arguably their most valuable and seen piece of real estate they own).
Your expert/leaderships bio pages will be viewed by your prospective clients, employment candidates, partners, press, and investors to decide who they would be working or engaging with.
When most companies do choose to build out leadership content, it's often just one page trying to do all the work for everyone. Usually siting in the About Us or Company page and we often see it go one of three ways:
One page to rule them all: A single page with headshots, names, and titles. Sometime a link to their Linkedin profiles if they are feeling sassy. Good luck having this page rank for your exec's or experts names, and even if it did, nothing to see here folks. Weak.
The Pop Up Profiler: Looks like a step up form the sigle page because when you click on the persons photo or name, a box pops up with their bio. While this solution feels like everyone got their time in the selected sun, it's a mislead. Sometimes the content itself is rendered in a way that makes it hard to consume by search engines and LLMs. Not to mention without rendering their own URLs there really isn't much of a home for the content to anchor onto.
Trust us, they are smart: Yay they actually have their own bio page with it's very own URL and everything except all you get is a name, title, headshot and a bio that says we hired a smart person, who went to smart school, did smart things, in smart places, now does smart things for us (and sometime we add a touch of humanity with something about family or hobbies).
In each case the bio asks the reader to take your word for it, but a bio that shows how someone thinks, earns trust.
So why does this happen? Because bios get written once at launch or when a new exec comes onboard, usually by marketing, usually from a resume or from AI directly. Rarely as a collaborative effort with the person themselves. It's treated as a checkbox event.
We/You can do it better

There still a ton more to learn below about great bio pages, but if you are itching to learn about Thought Leadership As A Service (TLaaS) click below... no judgement either way
So here is what good looks like:

Its own URL: A home to link to. both externally and interally. A page with its own meta data to confirm to AI/LLMs and Search Engines alike that yes this in fact the real person you are looking for. Extra credit: You get the individual to link to their profile URL from some of their profiles online (if appropriate).
A real person: Headshot, Name (if common add midle initial), Links to Linkedin or orther relevant socials. The ability to contact the person. Make it easy and upfront.
A point of view, up top: Show visitors right away that this page is going to provide more than the typical boring bios described above. Use one line to help your audience understand their mission or what they belive in one line. This is the read more hook for anyone, customer, prospect, investor, press etc.
Topics they own: Make the connections obvious and simple by calling out topics and subjects they are known for or experts in. It sets audience expectaions upfront and at the very least serves to include terms on their profile pages that you'd like the LLMs and Search engines to associate to them.
A bio that proves: Too often this is just a list of titles/roles held. Tell a compelling story using their career experiences in the context of how they can help or the role they play today in your org.
A quote worth repeating: This is a great opportunity to highlight them to readers, AI and press in their own words. It's a clear sign the company is willing to highlight their experts and let them share their wisdom.
Hear them think: Highlight a recent and relevant video of them with links to chapters so users can hop quickly to relevant clips. Extra Credit: Add a carousel of videos you can highlight so the audience can really get a sense of the person.
Questions they answer: Think of this as a mini FAQ where they can answer real world relevant questions with non canned answers in their own words. If it's going to be coocie cutter stuff don't add this section.
Articles and clips: Now it's time to showcase their wisdom. Consider this page the hub of expertise so this section is where you can highlight them in various mediums like short video clips and blog articles. This builds a nice bit of linking to your owned assets authored by them.
Talks & Press: This is where you highlight that the rest of the world confirms they are smart and an expert in their flied by providing links to podcasts, interviews, where they've been quoted, and presentaions, webinar etc they have taken part in. Most of this content isn't own by your org but it kind of says "they are industry confirmed"
Behind the page:Probably the most overlooked of them all is the structured schema data that helps search engines, AI LLMs and frankly whatever comes next contextualize and confirm who this person is.
So what now:
Check your site: Do your leaders have their own pages, or one shared grid? Could you swap two bios without anyone noticing? Does any bio link to something the person said or wrote? Audit these pages. Search in Google and popular AIs for the persons name plus the company. What shows up? How much of that is controlled by the person our you company? Need help auditing it, we can easily help you make your case to invest time and funds into improving this. After all hiring smart people and then hiding them from the web wasn't really the point right?
We aren't stupid: We get it either all this content is scattered, or worse it doesn't even really exist the way it should. It's time consuming to build and manage and getting your experts to commit is like herding cats. We've heard all the reasons why this doesn' happen, hell we even write about them, so we solved for it.
Our fix, Thought Leadership As A Service: We research in AI and Search what your audience is asking and wants to know. We turn that into a well thought out real interview with your experts and from that we build out valuable content assets. Every session adds a clip, quotes and an article to that leader's page, so the bio keeps growing and your companies wisdom keeps showing up.
